Estimated 120,000 attended WP rally in Hougang

After reading Mother Superior 's entry on the general election 2006, i went over to yawning bread to check out the size of the Workers Party rally on the 30 April 2006. My God!! estimated number...120,000!! People really connect with Mr Low Thia Kiang, the incumbent opposition MP. YB also have pictures of rally by Senior Minister Goh in the same ward the night after. You have to go to YB to see it for yourself to see the unbelievable difference in the turnout!

My wife and I was at the rally. This was our first time we attended a rally. We went early at around 6pm and was somewhere in front, it was an electrifying and memorable experience. We were all the time focus on the front and did not look back until when we decided to leave before the last speaker finish. When we turned our backs we were shocked at the massive crowd, we were stuck! The PAP seems to be numb to this because every elections it was the same story they won even crowds to opposition rallies were big. My gut feeling is that this time is going to be different.

i was totally taken aback by the size of the crowd in this pic. but it is true, turnout size does not translate directly into the ballot box, judging from the past. Probably a lot of the attendees are from other wards. But WP has been consistent and fielded candidates of quality so far. My gut feel is, there will be some surprises come 6 of May, in Hougang as well as other wards.

My relatives from Singapore dropped by last week. They do have an electiion in their place? zone?? but they sound not interested. So, I gather it'll be another walkover affair by the ruling party. THis morning I came here and I see ur pic.... ??!

It's expected :) We get PAP's propaganda from our media all the time. It's only during such pre-election campaign rallies which happen only once in a blue moon that we get to hear the other side of the story. So of course naturally more people would flock to the opposition rallies :) But which party the electorate will vote for is another story altogether :)

I wish your hope will come true. It is really sad if our citizens do not give the hard working WP a chance to represent the 35-40% who wants some say in policy making and to put the ownership of the country in perspective. I cannot understand why citizens are so afraid of the government they put in power! Willing to accept a monopolistic government for some material comfort. Even the Thai King said that a one-party system is not good for their country.
